Swicy Pineapple-Habanero Wings

Sweet pineapple meets FIERY habanero on the crispiest wings ever. This “swicy” (sweet + spicy) glaze is glossy, sticky, and completely addictive — the kind of wings that disappear in minutes on game day. A cool, creamy herb dip on the side balances the heat perfectly.

Ingredients

For the Wings

  • 2 lbs chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (for extra-crispy skin)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Pineapple-Habanero Glaze

  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup crushed pineapple
  • 1–2 habanero peppers, finely minced (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water

For Serving

  • Ranch or creamy herb dipping sauce
  • Red chili flakes and chopped cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the wings completely dry with paper towels — this is the secret to crispy skin. Toss with the baking powder, salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
  2. Oven method: Bake on a wire rack over a baking sheet at 425°F (220°C) for 40–45 minutes, flipping halfway, until deep golden and crispy. Air fryer method: Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 22–25 minutes, shaking the basket halfway.
  3. While the wings cook, make the glaze: combine the pineapple juice, crushed pineapple, habanero, honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, and vinegar in a saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Simmer for 5–6 minutes until slightly reduced. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook 1 more minute until the glaze is thick and glossy.
  5. Transfer the hot, crispy wings to a large bowl. Pour the warm glaze over and toss until every wing is coated and shiny.
  6. Garnish with chili flakes and cilantro. Serve immediately with the creamy herb dip on the side.

Pro Tips

  • Handle habaneros with gloves, and never touch your face — the heat is real.
  • Start with one habanero; you can always add more heat, but you can’t take it away.
  • Toss the wings in the glaze while both are hot so the coating clings perfectly.
